1. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BREEDING?
I began breeding rabbits at 10 years of age, but only for meat. When I was a young boy I visited shows and I liked the animals exhibited there. I got a few contacts and I became a member of the Czech breeders association. In 1998 I registered in the three word rabbit breeders club. I sucessfully completed a course in rabbit evaluation and I travel around shows where I judge the exhibited animals. I have been involved in rabbit breeding at an expert level for more than 20 years.
2. WHAT BREED DID YOU START WITH AND WHAT BREED DO YOU HAVE NOW?
I started with New Zealand whites and at a show in Žirčí I began to like Three words so I got some. Currently I breed many breeds - Big White Silvers. black and blue Three words, Marburks (since 2013), Duryn satins.
3. WHAT IS SPECIFIC FOR A GIVEN BREED?. IS IT DIFFICULT TO BREED?
For Three words, on which I concentrate the most the important thing is colouring. Around the eyes the important thing is Three word rings, on the the belly a fieryness is highly valued. The difficult thing about breeding is that at time of freeezing weather there is a problem with letting them loose. Thats why I give them additional vitamin C in the winter period.
4. WHAT AWARDS HAVE YOU RECEIVED? AND WHICH ONE DO YOU VALUE THE MOST?
I have received many honours prizes, cups and recognition, but the award I value the most is "Club Champion" from special shows. At a European show in Metach I got a cup and I was the best of the Czech breeders.
5. WHAT BREED WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO NEW BREEDERS?
I woud definitely recommend a single coloured breed. But particularly not Marburks, Holickas and not dwarf breeds. I would recommend to a new breeder in Eastern Bohemia for instance a Great White Silver or a Vienna, Burgundy, because around Náchod these breeds are missing. (note: Mr Andrš lives in Novém Městě nad Metují).
6. ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE FEED FROM ENERGYS HOBBY? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN FEEDING WITH THEM?
I am very satisfied and I don't want to change anything. Previously I tried products from other producers but it was quite dusty. After pouring out the bag into my containers, 1/5 of it was dust. That never happened to me with granules from De Heus. I have been giving my rabbits feed from De Heus since 2005 and since 2012 I also order mixes for our entire organisation.
7. WHAT DAILY RATION DO YOU GIVE TO RABBITS? DO YOU MIX THE GRANULES WITH OTHER CEREALS AND IF SO IN WHAT RATIO?
I dont know the exact amount, but I only give them Classic Rabbit granules. I only give hay, water and granules to the rabbits. From May until August I give my animals who will be will be exhibited at shows Champion Rabbit feed. Thanks to this they have beautiful shiny and flexible fur. I also feed housed females and young rabbits this feed.
